Struggling with his past mistakes and trying to rebuild his life, Dennis partners with his old friend Rene, portrayed by Didier Flamand, as they embark on selling Christmas trees during the holiday season. The film explores themes of redemption, friendship, and the complexities of family relationships, set against a bleak yet poignant urban backdrop. Their journey is marked by both humor and hardship as they navigate personal demons and search for hope amidst adversity.

Reviews

All Is Bright received mixed reviews from critics, as reflected by its ratings: 5.6/10 on IMDb, 48% on Rotten Tomatoes, and a Metacritic score of 54/100. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an average rating with the consensus noting it as "a quietly affecting dramedy with good performances, albeit somewhat uneven in tone." Critics praised Paul Giamatti's portrayal of the flawed yet sympathetic Dennis, highlighting his ability to ground the film's emotional core. The Hollywood Reporter mentioned that "Giamatti delivers a nuanced performance that elevates the material," but also pointed out that the narrative occasionally lacks focus and momentum. Metacritic aggregated reviews showed a split, with some reviewers appreciating the film's heartfelt attempt at depicting redemption and others critiquing the pacing and narrative cohesion. Viewers on IMDb expressed similar sentiments, appreciating the actors’ chemistry and the film’s bittersweet mood but feeling the story dragged at points. Overall, All Is Bright is recognized for its character-driven story and emotional beats, though it may not fully satisfy those looking for a tightly structured or uplifting holiday film.
