Reviews
Café Metropole has garnered a variety of critical responses over the years, reflecting its status as a classic piece of romantic comedy from the 1930s. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie enjoys a respectable 73% from audience ratings, indicative of its enduring charm and entertainment value. IMDb reviewers have rated the movie 6.6/10, with many praising Tyrone Power and Loretta Young for their captivating performances. One reviewer notes, 'Loretta Young lights up the screen with her beauty and elegance,' while another appreciates the 'charming and witty dialogue that makes the film a joy to watch.' However, not all reviews are glowing. Some critics, such as those from Metacritic, argue that the plot's reliance on misunderstandings can feel contrived. A reviewer from Classic Film Guide pointed out, 'While the film is entertaining, it doesn't quite reach the heights of other romantic comedies of the era.' Despite these critiques, the film maintains a nostalgic appeal, primarily due to its period charm, the star power of its leads, and the exotic allure of its setting.
