Synopsis
Hide and Go Shriek is a 1988 American slasher film directed by Michael Schultz and starring George Thomas. The story follows a group of teenagers who sneak into a mall after hours to attend an unauthorized Halloween party. Soon, their fun turns into terror as a masked killer starts hunting them down one by one within the expansive, darkened shopping center. The movie captures the classic slasher tropes of the 1980s with a focus on suspense, isolated setting, and a masked psycho antagonist. As the tension escalates, friendships are tested and survival becomes the foremost goal in this chilling, atmospheric thriller.

Reviews
Hide and Go Shriek has received a mixed reception from critics and audiences alike. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.2/10, reflecting a division between those who appreciate its nostalgic and campy qualities and those who find it lacking in originality and scares. Rotten Tomatoes does not have a Tomatometer score for this title, indicating it may have flown under the radar of mainstream critics. Some reviewers praise the movieโs quintessential 80s slasher vibe, noting its engaging use of the mall setting and practical effects, which build a fittingly eerie ambiance for fans of the genre. For example, horror-focused outlets often commend it for delivering entertaining if predictable thrills. However, others critique the film for its thin character development, formulaic plot, and moments of inconsistent pacing that reduce its suspense impact. Metacritic does not list a score, which suggests limited critical coverage, but audience reviews often acknowledge the filmโs charm as a cult classic despite its flaws. Overall, Hide and Go Shriek appeals primarily to devoted slasher aficionados looking for a nostalgic throwback rather than to viewers seeking innovative horror storytelling.
