Synopsis

Hibernatus, a comedy film released in 1969, tells the story of a man named Hubert who is frozen in a glacier during an expedition and revived 65 years later. The shock of waking up in a completely different world leads to hilarious situations as he tries to adapt to modern life. As Hubert's descendants welcome him into their lives, they must navigate the cultural differences and comedic misunderstandings that arise from his outdated manners and beliefs. The film explores themes of family, tradition, and the clash between old and new in a heartwarming and humorous way.

Reviews

Hibernatus has received mixed reviews from critics, balancing between nostalgia for classic French comedies and criticism for its outdated humor. While some praise the performances, particularly that of Jean-Luc Reichmann in the lead role, others find the humor to be too slapstick and predictable. Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a rating of 6.2/10, with some critics applauding its charm and warmth, while IMDb rates it at 6.5/10, citing the comedic timing as a standout feature. Metacritic offers a lower score of 54%, with critics pointing out the dated nature of the film's jokes and characterizations. Overall, Hibernatus is a lighthearted comedy that may appeal to fans of classic French cinema.
