Dreamcatcher received mixed reviews from critics upon its release. Rotten Tomatoes gave it an approval rating of 28% based on 169 reviews, with the consensus stating, 'Dreamcatcher combines aliens with psychological intrigue, resulting in a jumbled and uneven hybrid of a thriller.' Metacritic scored the film 35 out of 100, indicating 'generally unfavorable reviews.' Despite the low ratings, some critics praised the performances, particularly Morgan Freeman's portrayal of a mysterious government agent.
