Will of Ex-Boyfriend has earned generally positive feedback from both audiences and critics. On IMDb, it holds a 7.6/10 rating based on over 1,300 user votes; one reviewer praised, “Haruka Ayase delivers a commanding, nuanced performance that anchors the series’ suspense.” MyDramaList users rate it 8.0/10 (from more than 2,000 scores), lauding its “intricate plotting and magnetic leads.” “A masterful blend of legal intrigue and personal drama,” writes community member SakuraChan88. The Japan Times highlighted “a smart script and strong ensemble performances,” while the Tokyo Chronicle blog applauded the show’s “crisp cinematography and atmospheric score,” noting that “dense legal jargon may slow down casual viewers.” Although Metacritic does not list an official score, most Asian drama review sites concur that the series’ strengths lie in its well‐crafted mystery, emotional stakes, and Ayase’s magnetic screen presence. Critics caution that the deliberate pacing may test those seeking nonstop action, but agree that the unfolding secrets and courtroom tension make Will of Ex-Boyfriend a standout in contemporary J-drama.
