Reviews

Critically, Koothara received mixed responses upon its release. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.2/10, reflecting a moderate reception from audiences worldwide. Several reviewers appreciated the movie for its attempt to depict the struggles of youth realistically, highlighting the performances of the lead cast as earnest and relatable. The Times of India noted that the film "captures the essence of friendship and personal growth but occasionally dwells too long on melodramatic sequences," giving it a 3/5 score. Critics praised the cinematography and music for enhancing the narrative's mood, with Rediff.com stating that "the visual storytelling complements the filmโ€™s themes effectively." However, some criticism was directed towards the screenplay, which was viewed as uneven, and to certain pacing issues that affected the overall impact. Despite these flaws, Koothara was commended for its earnest storytelling and the director's efforts to venture into a different genre compared to typical commercial Malayalam films. Overall, while not a standout hit, Koothara has been recognized for its heartfelt approach to youth-related themes and remains appreciated by a segment of Malayalam cinema enthusiasts.
