Synopsis
Erotic Ghost Story, originally titled ่้ฝ่ท่ญ, is a 1990 Hong Kong erotic fantasy film directed by Lam Ngai Kai and starring Amy Yip Chi-Mei. Drawing loosely from Pu Songling's classic collection of supernatural tales, Liaozhai Zhiyi, the film weaves a sensuous narrative around three female fox spirits who disguise themselves as human women in a temple setting. Blending elements of eroticism, fantasy, and folklore, the story explores themes of desire, transformation, and mysticism. Renowned for its bold sensual imagery and captivating performances, the film delivers a uniquely atmospheric experience that balances titillation with classic ghost story motifs. Its mixture of traditional Chinese mythos and provocative storytelling makes it a notable entry in the Category III cinema of Hong Kongโs early 1990s era.

Reviews
Erotic Ghost Story holds a mixed reputation among critics and audiences alike. On IMDb, the film has a rating of 5.6/10, reflecting a division between viewers who appreciate its campy and erotic qualities and those critical of its narrative depth and production values. Some viewers praise the movie for its alluring visual style and Amy Yipโs charismatic performance, with comments highlighting its role as a cult classic within the erotic fantasy genre. However, others criticize the film for its low-budget effects and occasionally disjointed storyline. Rotten Tomatoes does not provide an official critic score due to its niche appeal and release era, but user reviews often mention the filmโs charm within the cult Category III cinema circle. While Erotic Ghost Story may not satisfy mainstream expectations for plot coherence or cinematography, it is appreciated for its historical significance and boldness in portraying supernatural erotica in Hong Kong cinema. Metacritic lacks a direct score for the film, which underlines its status as a cult rather than a critically acclaimed work. Overall, it is seen as a provocative genre piece appealing to fans of erotic thrillers and Asian ghost stories rather than a general audience.
