Foxfire received mixed reviews from critics, reflecting a divided reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 47% approval rating, indicating a lukewarm response with some praising its earnest performances and portrayal of female camaraderie, while others criticizing its pacing and narrative depth. IMDb users have rated it 6.1/10, suggesting moderate audience appreciation but not widespread acclaim. Critics from AllMovie commended the ensemble cast, particularly Hedy Burress, for their authentic and heartfelt performances, contributing to the filmโ€™s emotional core. However, some reviews pointed out that the filmโ€™s storyline sometimes veers into clichรฉ territory and lacks the tonal consistency needed to fully captivate viewers. The New York Times highlighted that while Foxfire tries to capture the spirit of youthful rebellion and female empowerment, it occasionally succumbs to melodrama and predictable plot developments. Overall, Foxfire is recognized for its thematic ambitions and character-driven narrative but is noted to fall short in execution and originality for some audiences.
