Synopsis
In the midst of World War I, a British soldier named Charles Plumpick (Alan Bates) is sent on a mission to a small town in France to disarm a bomb set by the retreating German army. However, upon his arrival, he discovers that the town has been abandoned by its residents, except for the inhabitants of a local asylum. The patients mistake Plumpick for the 'King of Hearts' and crown him as their monarch, leading to a series of whimsical and surreal adventures.
