Juggling multiple relationships and a dead-end job as a lowly clerk, Billy is a chronic liar who invents elaborate fantasies to avoid facing his responsibilities. As his web of lies spirals out of control, Billy must confront the harsh realities of adulthood and decide between the illusion of his fantasies or the demands of the real world. Directed by John Schlesinger, the film beautifully captures the rebellious spirit of youth and the universal struggle to find one's place in a conservative society.
