Reviews

Memories of the Sword received mixed to positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 75% approval rating, indicating a generally favorable reception. Many praised the movie's visually striking action sequences and the performances, particularly highlighting Lee Byung-hun's compelling portrayal and the choreography that brings intense swordplay to life. However, some critics noted that the narrative pacing felt uneven at times, and the emotional depth could have been further developed. Metacritic's score of 47/100 reflects these mixed sentiments, suggesting that while some appreciated the film's ambitious blend of action and drama, others found it lacking in cohesion and character development. IMDb users have rated the film 6.3/10, showcasing a modest appreciation that aligns with its mixed critical reception. As a whole, Memories of the Sword is seen as a stylistically impressive film with strong performances but one that may not fully satisfy viewers seeking a tightly woven storyline.
