Synopsis

Rosie the Riveter is a 1944 American musical comedy film directed by Joseph Santley. The film follows sisters Rosie (Jane Frazee) and Rosemary (Doris Houck) who work at a wartime aircraft plant. Rosie finds herself in a love triangle with a handsome pilot and her sister's boyfriend, leading to comedic misunderstandings and musical interludes. As the women of America step up to support the war effort, Rosie must navigate her personal life amidst the chaos of the home front. With catchy songs and lively performances, Rosie the Riveter captures the spirit of patriotism and female empowerment during World War II.

Reviews

Rosie the Riveter received a mix of reviews upon its release. While some critics praised the film for its upbeat musical numbers and charming performances, others found the plot to be formulaic and the comedy to be lacking in depth. Despite its flaws, the film was commended for its celebration of female friendship and the contributions of women to the war effort. Rotten Tomatoes critics consensus described it as 'a light-hearted wartime romp that will entertain fans of the genre'. IMDb viewers appreciated the fun spirit of the film, giving it a solid 6.3/10 rating. Metacritic highlighted the film's historical significance but noted that it may not appeal to modern audiences as much as it did in its time.
