Critics praised Sissy Spacekโs committed performance, noting that her portrayal added depth and sincerity to the film's humanitarian themes. However, some reviews criticized the movie for a somewhat predictable narrative and for lacking a stronger dramatic tension necessary to elevate the story. Film critic Roger Ebert remarked that while the movie's intentions were noble, its pacing and character development felt uneven. Rotten Tomatoes does not have an aggregated score due to limited reviews at the time but generally the reception acknowledges the film's heartfelt approach despite its conventional storytelling.
