Reviews
The River Why received mixed reviews from critics upon its release in 2010. Rotten Tomatoes' critics consensus described the film as a 'sweet, earnest effort that falters during its journey' and gave it a rating of 40%. While some praised the breathtaking cinematography and heartfelt performances, others felt that the pacing was slow and the narrative lacked depth. IMDb users rated the film 5.5/10, with opinions ranging from 'a poignant coming-of-age story' to 'a meandering and unremarkable tale'. Metacritic's score of 52 indicated a generally average reception, with critics highlighting the film's environmental themes but critiquing its execution. Despite its flaws, The River Why has found a small but dedicated fan base appreciative of its introspective nature and emphasis on the beauty of the natural world.
