Reviews
Safety in Numbers received mixed reviews from critics upon its release in 1938. While some praised Jed Prouty's performance as Silas Gibbs and the film's wholesome charm, others found the humor to be too slapstick and the plot to be predictable. Variety magazine described the movie as 'a light-hearted romp through small-town politics' but noted that the jokes tended to fall flat. On the other hand, The New York Times commended Prouty for his endearing portrayal of Silas, calling the character 'a lovable fool in a sea of sharks'. Overall, Safety in Numbers holds a modest rating of 6.4/10 on IMDb, indicating a polarized response from audiences.
