Reviews
Sappho received mixed reviews from critics, with some praising the film's lush visual style and heartfelt performances while others criticized its pacing and melodramatic storytelling. The Los Angeles Times described it as 'a visually stunning portrayal of love and longing,' highlighting Avalon Barrie's compelling portrayal of Sappho. However, The Hollywood Reporter noted that the film lacked depth in character development and failed to fully explore the complexities of same-sex relationships. Despite these criticisms, some viewers found the film to be a refreshing take on an age-old love story, with Rotten Tomatoes giving it a 56% approval rating based on audience reviews. IMDb users rated Sappho 4.5/10, reflecting the divisive nature of the film's reception.
