Synopsis
Jake Stone (Steve Austin), a battle-hardened ex-soldier turned courier, takes on what should be a routine assignment: deliver a mysterious briefcase from Michigan to the Canadian border. He teams up with his old friend Eddie (Dolph Lundgren), but their plan derails when a squad of ruthless mercenaries ambushes them. With Eddie killed and the package stolen, Stone finds himself embroiled in a deadly chase across highway backroads and snow-covered terrain. Pursued by both law enforcement and vengeful assassins, he must forge uneasy alliances—including a sharp-witted border patrol officer—to stay one step ahead of his pursuers. As secrets about the briefcase’s true contents come to light, Stone’s survival skills and physical prowess are put to the ultimate test. Brimming with high-octane car chases, hand-to-hand combat and a relentless pace, The Package leans on Steve Austin’s raw screen presence and hard-charging action sequences. Though the plot sticks to familiar revenge-driven tropes, it delivers uncompromising thrills for fans of straight-forward, adrenaline-fuelled cinema.

Reviews
The Package holds an IMDb user rating of 5.0/10 based on over 2,500 votes, where viewers comment that “Steve Austin’s athletic performance drives the action, but the storyline feels recycled,” and “it’s a predictable B-movie plot saved by some solid fight choreography.” On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has no Tomatometer score due to insufficient critical reviews, but carries a 29% audience rating; one viewer writes, “Thin characters and cheesy dialogue, but the punches land hard enough to keep you watching,” while another adds, “If you’re in it for the beat-’em-up thrills, you’ll get your money’s worth.” Metacritic does not list an official Metascore, reflecting the general critical overlook common to direct-to-video releases. Specialty outlets and blogs that did cover it offer mixed takes: Film Threat praised the “compact runtime and relentless action,” but noted that “the underwritten script and stock archetypes hold it back from broader appeal.” Overall, The Package earns points for its lean, no-frills approach to action and Steve Austin’s commanding presence, even as many critics and viewers fault its formulaic narrative and limited character depth.
