Synopsis
White on White (Blanco en Blanco) is a haunting 2020 drama set in early 20th century Chile, where a photographer named Emilio, played by Alfredo Castro, arrives at a remote estate to document the wedding of a landowner's daughter. Against a bleak, snowy landscape and the backdrop of colonial oppression, Emilio becomes an observer to the disturbing realities faced by the indigenous workers and the marginalized. The film explores themes of power, violence, and silence with a slow-burning, atmospheric approach, emphasizing visual storytelling over dialogue to immerse viewers in a stark and unsettling world. It is a meditation on complicity and the ghosts of history, framed by breathtaking but chilling cinematography.
