Reviews
Blue Thunder has received a mixed yet generally positive reception from critics and audiences alike. Rotten Tomatoes reports a solid approval rating of 78%, signaling that most viewers enjoyed the film's mix of action and entertainment. Critics have praised the filmโs thrilling aerial sequences and Roy Scheider's dedication to his role, with The New York Times noting, 'Scheiderโs performance is riveting, making the character relatable and heroic.' On the other hand, some have pointed to the film's pacing issues and predictability. IMDb users have given it a modest score of 6.4/10, while Metacritic boasts a slightly better score of 66/100, indicating mixed or average reviews. The Guardian remarked, 'While it succumbs to some typical 80s action tropes, Blue Thunder also tackles the subject of government surveillance and civil liberties, making it more than just an action flick.'
