Synopsis

Brothers of the Head is a 2006 British mockumentary film that tells the compelling and unconventional story of conjoined twin brothers, Tom and Barry Howe, played by Harry and Luke Treadaway. Set in the early 1970s, the film follows their tumultuous journey as they are groomed to become a punk rock sensation. The Howe brothers are discovered by a manipulative music producer who sees a unique opportunity in their physical condition. Thrust into the chaotic world of rock music, they deal with issues of identity, exploitation, and the turbulent dynamics of their relationship. As their fame grows, so too does the pressure, leading to dramatic and emotional consequences.

Reviews

Brothers of the Head received a mixture of reviews from critics, with many applauding its daring and unique narrative structure while others found it uneven. The film holds a 6.2/10 rating on IMDb, with users praising the performances of Harry and Luke Treadaway for their intense and committed portrayals of the Howe brothers. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 70% approval rating, with critics noting, 'The Treadaway brothers deliver a pair of compelling performances, grounding the film with a sense of authenticity amidst the surreal premise.' Metacritic's score of 67/100 indicates generally favorable reviews. One review from The Guardian mentioned, 'Brothers of the Head is a fascinating, if uneven, exploration of identity and exploitation in the music industry,' while Variety praised the film as 'an audacious piece of storytelling that challenges the conventions of both the rock biopic and the mockumentary genres.' Some critics, however, felt the film's hybrid nature sometimes led to a disjointed narrative, with Slant Magazine commenting, 'Itโ€™s intriguing and offbeat, though its unconventional format may not be to everyoneโ€™s taste.' Despite its polarizing elements, Brothers of the Head is generally seen as a bold and inventive film.
