Upon its release, Doctor of Doom garnered mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike, as reflected in its IMDb rating of 4.8/10. Some praised the film for its ambitious approach to exploring ethical dilemmas associated with scientific experimentation. The film was described as 'a thought-provoking experience that intertwines horror and science fiction in a gripping narrative' by a reviewer on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite this, many critics pointed out flaws in the script and pacing, with one reviewer commenting, 'While the premise is intriguing, the execution leaves much to be desired, often veering into melodrama.' The special effects, considering the era, were also met with a divided reception; some called them 'effective and eerie', while others suggested they were 'dated and underwhelming'. Metacritic shows a user score that mirrors this division, reflecting both admiration and disappointment. Nonetheless, Dr. Sabin's portrayal by Harry Sabin attracted commendations as a strong lead, with several viewers noting, 'His performance is the filmโs saving grace.' In summary, while 'Doctor of Doom' appeals to a niche audience interested in the intersection of horror and ethical dilemmas, it may disappoint mainstream viewers looking for polished execution.
