Synopsis

In the coming-of-age comedy-drama movie 'Goats' released in 2012, David Duchovny plays the eccentric goat-herding father figure, known for his unconventional lifestyle. Ellis, his estranged son, played by Graham Phillips, leaves behind his comfortable life to attend the same East Coast boarding school his father once did. Through his experiences at the school and reconnection with his father, Ellis begins to understand the complexities of family, friendship, and life's journey. With charming moments, humorous encounters, and touching revelations, 'Goats' takes the audience on a heartwarming and introspective exploration of self-discovery and the importance of finding where you belong.

Reviews

Despite a stellar cast, 'Goats' fails to elevate itself beyond mediocrity. Rotten Tomatoes rates it at a mere 19%, highlighting its lackluster execution. While the film has some redeeming qualities, such as David Duchovny's performance and the picturesque setting, these are overshadowed by its uneven pacing and formulaic plot. IMDb gives it a 5.8/10, citing the film's inability to fully engage viewers or deliver a compelling narrative. Metacritic mirrors these sentiments with a score of 38/100, pointing out the film's missed opportunities and underdeveloped characters. Critics agree that while 'Goats' has its moments, it ultimately falls short of leaving a lasting impression.
