Reviews
Graffiti Bridge received predominantly negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds an approval rating of just 18%, indicating generally unfavorable reviews. Critics often cited the convoluted plot and lack of narrative cohesion as major shortcomings, despite the visually appealing musical sequences. The filmโs Metacritic score of 36 out of 100 further reflects the mixed-to-negative reception. On IMDb, it holds a rating of 4.7/10, pointing to divided viewer opinions. Renowned film critic Roger Ebert awarded the film 1.5 stars out of 4, remarking that it felt "confusing and self-indulgent," and lacking the emotional depth that made Purple Rain a success. However, some reviewers praised the film's unique soundtrack, highlighting Prince's innovative musical performances as a redeeming factor. Variety noted that while the movie struggles with storytelling, the music "offers moments of genuine inspiration," suggesting that fans of Prince's artistry might find value despite the filmโs flaws. Overall, Graffiti Bridge is often seen as a visually stylish but narratively weak project that appeals primarily to die-hard fans of Princeโs music.
