Reviews
Happiness Runs, Joni Barth's directorial debut, has received a mixed reception from critics. While some praise the film for its raw and unflinching portrayal of youth rebellion and the pursuit of happiness, others criticize its meandering plot and lack of cohesive narrative. Rotten Tomatoes gives the film a low rating of 17%, with critics citing its disjointed storytelling as a major flaw. Metacritic also rates it poorly at 24/100, highlighting the film's uneven pacing. However, some viewers appreciate the film's bold exploration of taboo subjects and the captivating performance by the lead actor. IMDb users have rated the movie 4.8/10, indicating a divided audience opinion.
Peter Travers from Rolling Stone describes the film as 'a daring look into the darker side of liberation', giving it a 3/5 rating. Conversely, The Guardian's David Jenkins criticizes the film for its lack of depth in character development and overall coherence, rating it 2/5. Despite its shortcomings, Happiness Runs manages to provoke thought and discussion on the complexity of human desires and the price of seeking ultimate freedom.
