Synopsis

"Isolados" is a Brazilian horror thriller released in 2014, directed by Tomas Portella and starring Bruno Gagliasso. The film follows Dr. Marcos Reis, a psychiatrist who takes a vacation to a secluded house in the woods with his wife and infant daughter. Their peaceful retreat quickly turns into a nightmare when they encounter a terrifying presence that disrupts the boundaries between reality and hallucination. As mysterious and unexplainable events unfold, Marcos must confront his own psychological demons while fighting to protect his family from the lurking danger. Blending elements of psychological suspense with supernatural horror, "Isolados" explores themes of trauma, paranoia, and survival in isolation.

Reviews

Critically, "Isolados" received mixed reviews. On IMDb, the movie holds a rating of 5.4/10 based on audience votes, reflecting an average reception among viewers. Some critics appreciated the atmospheric tension and strong performances, particularly praising Bruno Gagliasso's portrayal of the troubled psychiatrist, which added emotional depth to the narrative. For instance, reviewers from regional outlets commended the film's cinematography and eerie setting, noting that the secluded forest backdrop effectively amplified the sense of dread. However, some critiques highlighted pacing issues and a predictable plot. The film occasionally relies on genre clichés without fully leveraging its psychological premise. Reviewers from forums and some Brazilian critics mentioned that while the horror elements were suitably unsettling, the storyline felt somewhat conventional, lacking originality in the scares and resolution. Overall, "Isolados" is noted for its competent production and solid acting but divided opinions on its impact and memorability within the horror genre.
