Synopsis

Jiu Jitsu is a 2020 sci-fi martial arts action film starring Alain Moussi as Jake, a skilled practitioner of the ancient combat form known as Jiu Jitsu. Every six years, an alien warrior descends to Earth to battle the planetโ€™s best fighters in a deadly tournament that determines Earthโ€™s fate. Jake joins a group of elite fighters tasked with defending humanity against this powerful extraterrestrial threat. Combining intense hand-to-hand combat sequences with a sci-fi storyline, Jiu Jitsu explores themes of resilience, honor, and survival as these fighters confront a menace beyond anything they've encountered before. The film blends martial arts choreography with otherworldly visuals in a high-stakes battle for the future of mankind.

Reviews

Jiu Jitsu received predominantly negative reviews from critics and audiences alike, as reflected by its low scores across major platforms. On IMDb, the movie holds a 2.9/10 rating, indicating general dissatisfaction among viewers. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 27% approval rating, emphasizing criticism regarding the film's plot and dialogue. The critics' consensus often points to the underwhelming script and lack of character development, which detract from the impressive martial arts sequences. Metacritic assigns it a similarly low 27/100 score, categorizing reviews as generally unfavorable. For example, The Guardian highlighted that while the fight scenes choreographed by Alain Moussi display a degree of physical skill, "the narrative fails to make the sci-fi elements compelling or coherent." Similarly, Screen Rant noted that the film "struggles to blend its genre elements effectively," leaving viewers with a predictable and uninspiring experience despite its action-oriented premise. Nevertheless, some viewers praise the filmโ€™s ambitious attempt to merge martial arts with science fiction and acknowledge the energy brought by Moussiโ€™s physical performance. However, the consensus remains that Jiu Jitsu falls short in delivering a cohesive and engrossing cinematic experience.
