The story follows Susan, a fashion designer living in Rome who becomes embroiled in a series of mysterious murders after receiving threatening warnings connected to her past. As the bodies pile up, Susan finds herself entangled in a web of intrigue and danger, racing against time to uncover the identity of the killer before she becomes the next victim. Combining suspenseful storytelling, stylish cinematography, and a haunting musical score, the film is a quintessential example of the giallo genre, blending psychological thriller elements with striking visuals and atmospheric tension.

Reviews

Death Walks at Midnight has garnered mixed to moderately positive reviews from both critics and audiences. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.3/10 based on user ratings, indicating a generally favorable reception among viewers who appreciate vintage giallo films. Many fans praise Nieves Navarro's compelling performance and the film's atmospheric build-up of suspense, noting it as an archetypal example of early 1970s Italian thriller cinema. Rotten Tomatoes does not provide a critic score for the film due to its niche status, but user reviews often highlight the stylish direction and the evocative soundtrack by Luis Bacalov as standout features. Conversely, some critics point out the film's pacing issues and occasionally predictable plot twists, suggesting it may not fully satisfy those expecting a more tightly woven narrative. Metacritic lacks a formal entry for this title, reflective of its status as a cult classic rather than a mainstream release. Overall, reviewers regard Death Walks at Midnight as an enjoyable yet imperfect entry in the giallo canon, recommended primarily for genre enthusiasts and those interested in classic European thrillers.
