Synopsis

The Stroller Strategy (La stratégie de la poussette) is a French comedy directed by Clément Michel, revolving around the life of a young man named Romain, portrayed by Raphaël Personnaz. After an unfortunate romantic incident, Romain discovers a unique method of attracting women: using a stroller as a prop to appear as a caring father. The film unfolds as he navigates the ups and downs of single parenthood, hilariously attempting to juggle his newfound role while still searching for love. Set against the backdrop of Paris, the narrative offers a blend of humor and charm, showcasing Romain's comedic trials as he tries to impress women and build connections, all while dealing with the responsibilities that come with playing the part of a father. Through a series of amusing encounters and misunderstandings, the film explores themes of love, deception, and self-discovery, leading Romain on an enlightening journey about what it truly means to care for someone. Despite its light-hearted tone, the film also touches on deeper emotional aspects, making it a unique take on contemporary romance.

Reviews

The Stroller Strategy received mixed to negative reviews from critics, reflected in its low ratings on platforms such as Rotten Tomatoes (8%), IMDb (5.5/10), and Metacritic (20/100). Many critics pointed out the film's attempt to combine comedy and romance but fell short of delivering a coherent and engaging story. The Guardian noted, "Despite the charm of Raphaël Personnaz, the film struggles to maintain a consistent tone, resulting in disjointed humor that doesn't resonate with the audience," while a review from The Movie Waffler mentioned, "The premise had potential, but the execution feels lazy and formulaic." On the brighter side, some viewers appreciated the comedic performances, particularly citing Personnaz's ability to bring warmth to his character amidst the film's flaws. A user on IMDb commented, "It's not a perfect film, but it had its funny moments and a certain Parisian charm." Overall, the lack of solid character development and weak story arc led to its poor critical reception, despite some audience enjoyment in its light-hearted moments.
