Synopsis

Eva (Alix Poisson) is a young, free-spirited Parisian journalist who, unexpectedly pregnant by her inattentive fiancé, decides to spend the winter in the French Alps at her estranged father’s remote mountain chalet. Hoping for solitude and a fresh start, she is surprised when Clément (Stéphan Guérin-Troïka), her first great love—now a dedicated mountain guide—shows up to help her through the harsh season. As biting winds rage outside and the world closes in, Eva rediscovers old passions and faces new doubts about her future, her independence and what truly makes a family. Poignant and gently humorous, Isabelle Mergault’s L’Amour sur un plateau explores the unexpected ways our past romances can reignite hope and reshape the life we thought was already written.

Reviews

Although L’Amour sur un plateau flew under most international critics’ radar, it received a mixed reception in France and among online audiences. On AlloCiné, the French cinema site, the film holds an average press rating of 2.3/5 based on 28 professional reviews. Télérama praised Isabelle Mergault’s warm direction but noted “the screenplay often drifts into predictable snow-bound clichés.” Le Parisien was more enthusiastic, calling Alix Poisson “genuinely charming” and observing that “the film’s sleeper-cabin setting becomes a surprisingly intimate backdrop for matters of the heart.”

User-driven sites tell a similar story. IMDb users have rated it 5.2/10 from over 1,200 votes, with comments ranging from “a cozy, feel-good romance” to “pleasant but forgettable.” One IMDb reviewer wrote, “The chemistry is sweet, but the plot never really takes off.” No official score is listed on Rotten Tomatoes or Metacritic, indicating the film did not receive enough mainstream English-language reviews to generate an aggregate. Overall, critics and viewers agree the movie offers agreeable performances and a lovely Alpine atmosphere, even if it stops short of bringing anything radically new to the romantic comedy genre.
