Reviews
Critical reception for New Alcatraz was predominantly negative. On IMDb, the film holds a low rating of 3.4 out of 10, reflecting the general disappointment among audiences and critics alike. Rotten Tomatoes does not have an official Tomatometer score for the movie, indicating limited mainstream critical coverage. However, viewer reviews often cite the film's clichéd plot, lackluster special effects, and thin character development as major weaknesses. Some fans of campy sci-fi appreciate its B-movie charm and straightforward action sequences. Scanner Darkly described it as "a predictable ripoff of better sci-fi horror films," while other reviewers on Amazon highlight the film as "a forgettable creature feature with no real surprises." Despite its negative reception, Dean Cain's performance was occasionally noted as one of the few compelling aspects, bringing a degree of earnestness to the constrained script. Overall, New Alcatraz is generally viewed as an uninspired thriller that fails to make a significant impact in the genre.
