As the two collaborate, their professional relationship evolves into something more, set against a vibrant backdrop of vintage fashion, music, and the colorful atmosphere of the era. "Populaire" blends humor, romance, and a unique sports competition, delivering an uplifting and visually delightful story about ambition, love, and finding one's place in the world.

Reviews

Critically, "Populaire" received a mixed to positive reception. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 72% approval rating, with critics praising its energetic style and nostalgic charm. The site's consensus highlights the film's colorful period details and the engaging chemistry between Romain Duris and Déborah François. IMDb users rated the film 6.8/10, reflecting general appreciation for its lighthearted tone, although some viewers found the plot predictable and the pacing uneven. Metacritic's aggregated score stands at 58/100, which indicates mixed or average reviews; several critics enjoyed the film's playful homage to vintage romantic comedies but noted it lacked narrative depth. For example, The Guardian commented, "Populaire is a delightful visual treat brimming with retro flair and effervescent performances," while The Hollywood Reporter remarked on its "charming but occasionally superficial storyline."
