Reviews
"The Jesus Rolls" has received predominantly negative reviews from critics, reflecting its struggle to recapture the charm and originality of its inspiration, "The Big Lebowski." On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a low approval rating of 20%, with critics citing its uneven tone and lack of engaging storytelling. The site's consensus notes, "Despite John Turturro's energetic performance, the film fails to capture the whimsical magic of its predecessor." Metacritic assigns it a score of 44 out of 100, signaling mixed or average reviews. Many reviewers praise Turturro's dedication and charisma but criticize the screenplay and pacing. IMDb users rate the film poorly as well, with an average score of 4.4/10, often mentioning that the movie struggles with character development and humor execution. Variety described it as "a muddled, overlong retread," while The Hollywood Reporter noted that "the film stumbles despite flashes of charm." Overall, "The Jesus Rolls" did not resonate well with audiences or critics, often seen as an unsuccessful spin-off that neither fully honors nor reinvents the original mythos.
