Reviews

Critical response to Viy (1996) has been mixed but generally positive regarding its atmosphere and faithful adaptation of Gogol’s tale. The film holds a 7.2/10 rating on IMDb, indicating a favorable reception from viewers who appreciate its suspenseful mood and authentic period detail. Some critics praise the movie's visual effects and costume design, highlighting how they enhance the eerie ambiance and folklore mystique that underpin the story.
