Reviews

American Shaolin received a mixed reception from critics and audiences alike. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.8 out of 10, indicating average viewer feedback. Fans of martial arts cinema often appreciate the authentic fight choreography and the film's emphasis on traditional Shaolin teachings. However, some critics pointed out its predictable plot and somewhat formulaic character development. Rotten Tomatoes does not have an aggregated critic score for the film, reflecting its more niche appeal. Reviewers like TV Guide noted that the film "offers solid martial arts action but falls short in narrative depth," while others praised Reese Madigan's performance for bringing earnestness to the role of Drew. The film has since become something of a cult favorite among martial arts enthusiasts, recognized for its dedication to showcasing Shaolin culture despite its modest production values.
