Reviews
Sex and Fury has garnered a mixed yet notably enthusiastic reception from critics and fans of the genre. On IMDb, it holds a rating of 6.7 out of 10 based on user reviews, reflecting moderate appreciation. Many reviewers praise Reiko Ike's commanding performance and the film's stylish direction, highlighting its blend of action and eroticism as a distinctive hallmark of 1970s Japanese exploitation cinema. For example, a fan review on IMDb notes, "Reiko Ike is mesmerizing in her role, and the fight scenes are choreographed with raw energy and flair." However, some critics point out that the plot can feel disjointed and the pacing uneven. The film’s erotic elements may also not appeal to all viewers, given their bold and explicit nature. While Sex and Fury may not be for everyone due to its niche genre and graphic content, it remains a significant cult film celebrating strong female protagonists in a gritty, vengeance-driven storyline. On Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes, formal critic scores are unavailable due to the film’s niche status and age, but fan discussions and retrospectives often regard it as an influential piece in the exploitation and samurai film categories.
