Reviews

The Resident received mixed to negative reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a 31% approval rating, with many reviewers citing the film's predictable plot and lack of originality as detracting factors. The consensus notes that while the premise offers potential, the execution falls into familiar thriller clichรฉs and fails to maintain suspense. IMDb users gave it an average of 5.3/10, indicating a lukewarm reception from general audiences. Metacritic's score hovers similarly in the mixed range. Some reviewers praised Hilary Swank's committed performance, acknowledging her efforts to elevate the material. For example, The Hollywood Reporter noted that Swank's portrayal added emotional depth, though it wasn't enough to fully engage viewers. On the other hand, other critics pointed out weaknesses in the screenplay and pacing. The New York Times mentioned that the film's attempt at tension often feels contrived and underdelivers in delivering genuine scares. Overall, while The Resident delivers some suspenseful moments, it struggles to distinguish itself within the crowded genre of domestic thrillers.
