Synopsis

Bicycle Thieves, directed by Vittorio De Sica and released in 1948, follows the poignant story of Antonio Ricci, a struggling man in post-World War II Rome, who finally secures a job that requires a bicycle. However, tragedy strikes when his precious bicycle is stolen, leading him on a desperate quest with his young son Bruno to find it. The film beautifully captures the struggles of ordinary people facing moral dilemmas in a harsh and unforgiving world, resonating with themes of poverty, family bonds, and the human spirit. Lamberto Maggiorani delivers a powerful performance as Antonio, evoking empathy and portraying the raw emotions of a father torn between desperation and integrity.
