Synopsis

Set against the vast and unforgiving desert landscape during the Algerian War in 1960, "Stranded" (original title: "Djinns") follows a group of French soldiers on a reconnaissance mission who find themselves stranded after their plane crashes. As they attempt to survive and find a way out, they encounter mysterious supernatural entities known as Djinns. The atmosphere grows increasingly tense as the desert's harsh conditions clash with eerie, otherworldly threats, turning the mission into a fight not only for survival but against ancient forces. With Thierry Frémont leading the cast, the film blends war drama with horror, exploring themes of fear, isolation, and the supernatural.

Reviews

Critically, "Stranded" received mixed to negative reviews upon release. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 5.1/10, indicating a mediocre reception from general audiences. Critics praised the film's attempt to merge war and horror genres, as well as its atmospheric desert setting, but many noted issues with pacing and character development. For instance, some reviewers found the horror elements underwhelming and the narrative insufficiently engaging. On Rotten Tomatoes, while there isn't a widespread critic score due to limited reviews, audience feedback tends to highlight the film's unique concept but criticizes its execution. Metacritic does not have a rating for the film, reflecting its relative obscurity in mainstream media. In summary, while "Stranded" offers an intriguing premise and visually compelling landscapes backed by a strong performance from Thierry Frémont, the storytelling complexities and slow buildup may not satisfy all horror or war film enthusiasts.
