Reviews
Lawless received mixed to positive reviews from critics. IMDb rates the movie at 7.2/10, Rotten Tomatoes at 67%, and Metacritic at 58/100. Critics praised the strong performances from the ensemble cast, especially Shia LaBeouf's portrayal of the earnest and ambitious Jack. The film's atmospheric cinematography and authentic depiction of Prohibition-era Virginia were also highlighted. However, some critics felt that the plot lacked depth and the pacing was uneven. Variety described the film as 'a rough, tough, and gutsy good ol' boy stomping about in outlaw country,' while The Guardian criticized it for being 'overly familiar' and 'lacking in substance'. Overall, Lawless offers a compelling look at a turbulent chapter in American history, driven by strong performances and striking visuals.
