Critically, Cancel My Reservation received a mixed to negative reception upon release and maintains a modest reputation today. On IMDb, the film has a rating of 4.9/10 based on viewer reviews, indicating a lukewarm response from audiences. Many viewers and critics have noted Bob Hopeโs signature charm and comedic timing but felt the film's plot and pacing were weak. Rotten Tomatoes does not have an official aggregated critic score, but fan reviews echo similar sentiments, often praising Hopeโs performance while criticizing the script for lacking cohesion and depth. Metacritic does not list the film, reflecting its lesser impact in film circles. A review from TV Guide describes the movie as "an uneven blend of comedy and mystery that struggles to find its footing," while Leonard Maltin's classic movie guide gives it two stars, commenting that "Hope's comedic delivery is the filmโs saving grace amid a meandering story."
