The movie follows the rise and fall of Michael Alig, a party promoter in the New York club scene during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Portrayed by Macaulay Culkin, Alig becomes a prominent figure by organizing extravagant parties and events, but his success is overshadowed by drug abuse, violence, and the murder of his friend Angel Melendez. The film explores themes of fame, decadence, and the darker side of the nightlife culture, providing a glimpse into the shocking and tragic events that unfolded in Alig's life.

Reviews

Party Monster has received mixed reviews from critics. While some praise Macaulay Culkin's performance as Michael Alig, others criticize the film for glamorizing the drug-fueled party scene without delving deeper into its consequences. Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 29% rating, with an audience score of 68%. IMDb rates it 6.2/10, with users praising the film for its stylish visuals and Culkin's compelling portrayal. Metacritic gives it a score of 36/100, indicating generally unfavorable reviews. Variety mentions 'Culkin captures a sense of dangerous exuberance' while The Guardian criticizes the film for being 'all style, no soul'. Overall, Party Monster is a visually striking but controversial portrayal of a captivating yet disturbing true story.
