Synopsis

Rouge, a 1987 Hong Kong romantic drama directed by Stanley Kwan, stars Anita Mui and Leslie Cheung in a haunting tale that blends the supernatural with passionate romance. The film follows Fleur, a ghost from 1930s Hong Kong, who returns to reconnect with her lover, the gambler Chan Chen-Pang, hoping to rekindle their love that was tragically interrupted by societal constraints and fate. As Fleur navigates the modern world, the story explores themes of undying love, sacrifice, and the clash between traditional values and modern life. Richly atmospheric and emotionally charged, Rouge is both a ghost story and a poignant reflection on devotion and the passage of time.
