Synopsis

Bog is a 1979 horror film directed by Don Keeslar, starring Gloria DeHaven. The story revolves around a small town terrorized by a prehistoric amphibious creature awakened from a swampy bog. The monster emerges with deadly intent, threatening unsuspecting locals while a group of characters attempts to uncover the beast's origins and find a way to stop it in its tracks. Combining elements of creature-feature terror and atmospheric suspense, the film explores fear of the unknown and humanityโ€™s struggle against an ancient predator lurking in the shadows of a seemingly peaceful community.

Reviews

Bog has received predominantly negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. On IMDb, the film holds a low rating of 3.2/10, reflecting widespread dissatisfaction with its production quality, acting, and special effects. Users often describe the creature design as unconvincing and the plot as clichรฉd and slow-paced. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes have not aggregated a Tomatometer score due to the film's obscurity and niche appeal, but user reviews there also trend similarly unfavorable. However, some viewers appreciate Bog's campy charm and 1970s horror vibe, noting it as a cult curiosity for fans of vintage monster flicks. Metacritic does not list a score for the film. Film historian and horror enthusiast Lance Moody commented, โ€œWhile Bog lacks the polish of its contemporaries, it captures the earnest spirit of drive-in monster movies of its era.โ€ Overall, Bog remains more a curiosity for genre completists than a mainstream success, with its low ratings underscoring its limited appeal.
