Synopsis

In Link, directed by Richard Franklin, Elisabeth Shue stars as a young graduate student who takes a position at a remote research facility to study primates. Her research becomes dangerously complicated when she encounters Link, a highly intelligent but unpredictable ape trained by a mysterious scientist. As the experiment unfolds, the line between human and animal intelligence blurs, leading to unsettling consequences. The film explores themes of isolation, the ethics of animal experimentation, and the primal instincts inherent in both humans and animals. The tension escalates as the protagonist grapples with her moral obligations, ultimately facing a thrilling confrontation that challenges her perceptions of intelligence and survival.

Reviews

Critics have had mixed opinions about Link, which is reflected in its 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 5.9/10 on IMDb. Some reviewers praised the film's atmosphere and suspenseful moments, with The Guardian mentioning, "The film delivers an intriguing psychological tension that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats." However, it has also faced criticism for its pacing and narrative choices. According to a review from Variety, "While the premise holds promise, the execution falters, failing to fully engage with its thought-provoking themes." Moreover, Metacritic summarizes the film's reception, indicating it as having a generally unfavorable response, with a score that suggests a divide among fans. 'Link's unique premise and Elisabeth Shue's performance have garnered attention, even if it didn't resonate with all viewers.
