Synopsis

Aguirre, the Wrath of God (Aguirre, der Zorn Gottes) is a haunting expedition into the heart of darkness. Set in the 16th century, the film follows Spanish conquistadors as they venture deep into the Amazon jungle in search of El Dorado, the mythical city of gold. Led by the ruthless and power-hungry Aguirre, played with chilling intensity by Klaus Kinski, the group descends into madness, betrayal, and despair as they struggle against the harsh jungle terrain and their own inner demons. Director Werner Herzog masterfully captures the overwhelming isolation, cruelty, and futility of the human quest for power and glory in a hostile, untamable wilderness.
