Reviews

Final Destination received a mixed reception from critics and audiences alike. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 44% approval rating, indicating generally unfavorable reviews, with the critics consensus noting its clever premise but lack of depth: "Final Destination's inventive plot is undercut by thin character development and a predictable execution." Metacritic gives it a score of 39 out of 100, reflecting generally unfavorable reviews, although some acknowledged its suspenseful and creative death scenes. IMDb users have rated it more favorably, with a 6.7/10 score, appreciating its cult classic status and thrilling narrative. Critics generally praised the originality of the concept and its suspenseful build-up, but some found the characters clichรฉ and the plot formulaic over time. For instance, Roger Ebert found the film "a bit silly but undeniably entertaining," while others criticized its heavy reliance on jump scares. Overall, Final Destination is seen as a fun, albeit flawed, horror film that sparked a successful franchise thanks to its unique take on the inevitability of death.
