Synopsis

"Hooked Up" (2008) is a Spanish horror thriller directed by Juan Martinez Moreno that follows two friends, Jack and his girlfriend, who embark on a weekend getaway to a remote cabin. Looking to escape the pressures of city life and reconnect, they decide to document their experience on video. However, what starts as a fun trip quickly descends into a terrifying ordeal as mysterious and deadly events unfold, trapping them in a nightmare where survival becomes their only goal. The film is notable for its found-footage style, blending suspense, horror, and psychological tension to keep viewers on edge throughout the gripping narrative.

Reviews

"Hooked Up" received mixed to negative reviews from critics and audiences alike. On IMDb, it holds a modest rating of 4.5/10, reflecting a divided reception among viewers. Rotten Tomatoes does not provide a score due to limited reviews, but several critics noted the film's ambitious attempt at the found-footage genre. Dread Central commented that while the film effectively builds a tense atmosphere and delivers some genuinely creepy moments, it ultimately suffers from pacing issues and a thin storyline. HorrorNews.net praised the film's realistic approach and claustrophobic setting but criticized the lack of character development. The performances by the lead actors garnered some appreciation for their naturalistic delivery, which added to the filmโ€™s immersive quality. Conversely, some reviewers felt the movie relied too heavily on typical genre tropes and could have benefited from stronger plot cohesion. Overall, "Hooked Up" is recognized for its stylistic ambition but falls short in execution, making it a film that may appeal more to dedicated found-footage horror fans than to a general audience.
