Synopsis
Lessons of a Dream (original title: Der ganz große Traum) is a heartfelt drama inspired by the true story of a passionate teacher who revolutionizes the educational system in early 20th-century Germany. Set in 1912, the film follows the journey of a young educator, Friedrich Ludwig Jahn (played by Daniel Brühl), who takes on the challenge of teaching disruptive youth in a strict and traditional school. Jahn believes in a new method of teaching that emphasizes physical education and team spirit through the game of football (soccer), aiming to instill discipline and camaraderie among his students. Despite facing opposition from parents and school authorities, Jahn's innovative approach slowly starts to change the lives of his students and the perception of education in his community. As he navigates the challenges of the rigid educational system, the film explores themes of perseverance, teamwork, and the transformative power of sports. With its engaging storyline and rich historical context, Lessons of a Dream not only entertains but also raises important questions about the role of education and the influence of sports in personal development.
