Reviews

Sommersby received mixed reviews from critics upon its release in 1993. While some praised the film for its compelling story and strong performances, others found the plot predictable and lacking depth. Variety mentioned, "Jodie Foster shines in her role, bringing a sense of vulnerability and strength to the character of Laurel." On the other hand, Roger Ebert criticized the film for its pacing issues and lack of originality, stating, "Sommersby fails to bring anything new to the table in the romantic drama genre." Despite the varying opinions, the film manages to engage viewers with its emotional journey and moral dilemmas. The IMDb rating of 6.2/10 and the Rotten Tomatoes score of 63% further highlight the diverse range of reactions to Sommersby.
